Build better tagging foundation with Tagging Assistant.
New feature alert! Cloudthread is launching Tagging Assistant. It allows for monitoring tagging compliance and automating tagging policies, so it is easier to set up and maintain a great foundation for the efficient cloud cost management processes.
Tags Catalog kicks off the sequence of Cloudthread features aimed at automation. It helps to set up tagging for Terraform builds through GitHub Actions integration, and to maintain a central repository of tags addressing major governance challenges.
Tagging is one of the foundations of cloud cost management. It supports all the major phases of FinOps cycle (inform -> optimize -> operate), and is absolutely essential for proper cost allocation. However, is it far from easy to establish a proper tagging strategy, and even more difficult to maintain it and keep tag coverage at sufficient levels.
This problem is very well known in FinOps domain, and the solutions to it are ranging from setting up an account structure with high levels of separation (so that accounts can be used as the first level of tags and there are not many shared resources) to complex CI/CD solutions where tagging policy is enabled at the lowest level. Cloudthread now offers an in-between solution that can significantly improve tagging coverage and help to sustain it without serious development investments.
The Tagging Assistant version we are launching today consists of two parts aimed at AWS tagging: Tags Overview and Tags Catalog.
Tags Overview allows for easy monitoring of tag coverage within your cloud environment. It includes total coverage chat and a breakdown of that coverage by major dimensions (account, region, service, etc.), as well as an ability to filter the data.
Tags Catalog kicks off the sequence of Cloudthread features aimed at automation. It helps to set up tagging for Terraform builds through GitHub Actions integration, and to maintain a central repository of tags addressing major governance challenges. With Tags Catalog automation users can now be sure that all their Terraform projects are tagged according to policy, with the policy being easily accessible for review or change within the Cloudthread app. You can learn more about this feature in our Hacker News announcement.
