New Feature: Events Overlay

New feature alert! Cloudthread is launching Events Overlay. This feature allows to show important events on the cloud cost charts, so that it is clear right away why certain changes took place.

Now you can upload a time series data containing any important events to the platform through an API, and have these events displayed over the charts in Cost Views or Unit Metrics.

Imagine seeing a chart with total daily cloud cost for the past couple months. We bet you have seen it before many times – in Cloudthread, Cost Explorer, or any cloud cost management dashboard in fact. This is a standard high-level view. You look at the line going up and down, finding peaks and dips and trying to figure out why they have happened. This process of root cause analysis can take some time, and most of us are doing it daily.

Now imagine the same chart but with marks for important events that are affecting cloud costs: deploys, incidents, launches, marketing campaigns, etc. You look at this chart and all the peaks and dips suddenly go from a mystery requiring further research to a clear well-explained fact. You can easily see what events are responsible for cost fluctuations, and the picture is complete from the get-go. You know what to focus on, who to contact and how to deliver your point.

Isn't it great? Well, that is why we have added Events Overlay functionality to the Cloudthread platform. Now you can upload a time series data containing any important events to the platform through an API, and have these events displayed over the charts in Cost Views or Unit Metrics. This makes historical tracking, presenting and root cause analysis a breeze for any stakeholder – be it FinOps professional, Engineering Manager or Finance Analyst.
